Abstract

Wei Shujun, a brilliant post-90s rising star in contemporary Chinese cinema, has had his films featured four times at the Cannes International Film Festival, earning widespread international acclaim. With his unique artistic perspective and profound emotional insight, he demonstrates humanistic concern for ordinary People in reality. Simultaneously, his self-reflective examination of the environment transcends superficial critique, delving deeply into the intricate interplay and mutual influence between humans and their surroundings, thereby revealing a more complex and multidimensional social reality. This paper analyzes Wei Shujuns visual language style, symbolic usage, and narrative strategies in realist microfilms, using the short film Yanbian Youth as a case study.
